How cannabinoids work, and what cannabinoids do as part of cannabis products.

Learn about the unsung hero of cannabis— the naturally occurring chemicals that give them their effects. In the coming weeks, we’ll be exploring the most important ingredients that make cannabis, well…cannabis.

They’re called cannabinoids, and they’re responsible for helping cannabis do what it does best— improve wellness, positive feelings, and personal wellbeing. They’re also responsible for health benefits like improved sleep, better performance during fitness, and many more.

How do cannabinoids give cannabis its effects?

In future posts, we’ll highlight specific cannabinoids, their properties and benefits, and products at The Farmacy SB that feature them. But in this post, we want to introduce you to cannabinoids in general— what they are, how they work, and what it means for you.

In every human body, there’s something known as the endocannabinoid system. This system helps manage a wide range of your body’s needs, including mood, sleep, appetite, memory, and reproduction. The endocannabinoid system is actively working within your body whether you use cannabis or have never tried it in your life.
Endocannabinoids are cannabinoids themselves, but ones that your body naturally produces itself. (“Endo-“ is a prefix that means ‘within.’)

These endocannabinoids interact with pathways through the central nervous system, known as receptors, helping keep your body and mind balanced in a range of different ways.

Cannabinoids Explained

So much more than meets the eye. Follow our cannabinoid series to explore the benefits of each of the various cannabinoids.

So, where do the cannabinoids in cannabis come in?

Well, cannabinoids bind with the same receptors that your endocannabinoids do. Once the cannabinoids bind to the receptors, those cannabinoids are able to start positively impacting your body in a bunch of different ways.

It’s sort of like taking a multivitamin. That little capsule contains important vitamins your body naturally produces, it just brings a concentrated dose to help boost what’s already in your body.

What endocannabinoids already help your body do, cannabinoids can help it do even better. It’s all about choosing the right cannabinoids for the job.
